2 Authors@Google: Ray JackendoffJackendoff’s talk on “The Peculiar Logic of Value” centers on how humans conceptualize systems of value. He hypothesizes that value is conceptualized as an abstract property attributed to objects, persons, and actions. There are several distinct types of value, including Affective value (does it feel good or bad?); Utility (is it good for me?); Prowess (is so-and-so good at doing such-and-such); Normative value (is it good of so-and-so to do such-and-such?); Personal Normative value (is so-and-so a good person?); and Esteem (does so-and-so have a good reputation?). Each of these kinds of value plays a different role in the ecology of the value system.

Ray Jackendoff is Seth Merrin Professor of Philosophy and Codirector of the Center for Cognitive Studies at Tufts University. He is the author of many books, including “Foundations of Language”.

This event took place August 30, 2007 at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

2 Authors@Google: Jose GarcesIn honor of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15), the Hispanic Googler Network and Authors@Google were pleased to welcome Chef Jose Garces to Google’s New York office to discuss his new book, “Latin Evolution”.

“At age 35, Chef Jose Garces has fast become one of the country’s most distinguished chefs, a reputation that he solidified with the tremendous success of his first restaurant Amada, an authentic Andalusian tapas bar, which opened to rave reviews in Fall 2005. Called the “Latin Emeril” by one food critic for his wide smile and his educational approach to food, Garces, who the prestigious James Beard Foundation recently nominated for its “Best Chef Mid-Atlantic” award, has long been an ambassador of contemporary Latin cuisine, appearing regularly in the New York Times, Travel & Leisure, Esquire, Cooking Light, Restaurant Hospitality, Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveler, Philadelphia Magazine and Travel Channel’s Epicurious TV. In the few short months since Tinto debuted, it has been featured in Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Wall Street Journal and Philadelphia Inquirer.”

This event took place on September 27, 2008.

The author — a nice guy — said he was not successful in business until he became a total jerk. He said his book is full of tips. Can’t find it anywhere.

Al Neuharth wrote a book called Confessions of an S.O.B. He was interviewed on CNN Money.

The title of the article:

"WHY IT WORKS TO BE A JERK How did Al Neuharth become one of America’s top CEOs? In his new book he cheerfully tells us: by being an absolute bastard."

Here is the article:

You might want to check out Squidoo

http://www.squidoo.com

Its a site for people to create about something they are Expert in. I wouldnt put "business" in the search since that mostly comes up with get rich schemes. But you can put in something specific like flowers, or graphic arts, or dogs. Many of them are experts because its their business and they are doing some serious writing there.

Or you can check out this list from Yahoo

Hi All.

I am preparing a Video for a Machining Operation. Also i have to show some related archive(document) of the Machining operation which is avaliable on Google Books.

I was opting to screen record the books ( not only just the book content but also also author details, web address).

So, do i need to take permission from book authors so as to avoid myself landing in a Copyright Infringement.

Thanks All.

You need to obtain permission unless the book is in public domain.

Preferably a social-networking type of website where I can also share books I’ve read with others and rate books I’ve read. But it needs to have a strong recommendation feature.
